Lithuania Explores Forging Relations with ASEAN

JAKARTA, 28 August 2015 — Lithuania today expressed its interest in establishing cooperation with ASEAN and its Member States.

Foreign Minister of Lithunia, H.E. Linas Antanas Linkevičius, said that his country is conducting a study to identify areas of possible cooperation with ASEAN as well as within the ASEAN-European Union dialogue framework. Minister Linkevičius conveyed this when he called on Secretary-General of ASEAN, H.E. Le Luong Minh, at the ASEAN Secretariat.

SG Minh welcomed the intention of Lithuania to forge cooperation with ASEAN and its Member States in areas of mutual interest. He also encouraged Lithuania to establish diplomatic relations with all ASEAN Member States.

H.E. Minh also briefed Minister Linkevičius on the progress made to establish the ASEAN Community by the end of this year. He mentioned that ASEAN was moving steadily towards realising an integrated, well connected, and people-oriented Community. SG Minh added that ASEAN is working on its Post-2015 Vision to guide the Community’s integration process over the next 10 years.

Both sides also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of common interest.
